Emphasises that transparency is an essential element of sustainable fisheries management and is vital for matching consumer demand with adequate information; stresses the need for the ex ante evaluation of bilateral agreements, including scientific stock assessments, so as to determine their sustainability; invitescalls on the Commission to ensure that high sustainability standards are applied to EU vessels also when fishing in third-country waters;

Calls on the Commission to ensure that the allocation for sectoral support in the SFAs boosts the EU’s development cooperation objectives and is in line with the signatory country’s national development plan; calls for this allocation not to replace the cooperation on fisheries provided for in other agreements or cooperation instruments but to complement it in a coherent way; calls in this context on the Commission to ensure that small and medium-sized enterprises, in particular, are assisted;
